ne of the fortunate aspects of our society is the "collectible". Objects given value, not for what they do, but for what they signify. Made after things that earned their status by the actual value, either artistic or serviceability, the "collectible" is prized for the skill of its imitation. This is true of knives, guns, steins and the like
I say "fortunatie" because the enterprising girl can turn this into a profitable activity, Especially if she has access to cheap supplies. Mostly these "collectors" are persons with too mmany credits and too much free time for their own good, too little brains and who like their lives lived for them and are not likely to actually use the object and therefore not be able to tell the genuine from the shoddy knock-off.
The craze for phony collectibles has not yet touched the tiara. which gets its value from its appearance and the shallow collector also associates the tiara with aristocracy and riches and feels that by having a collection, he/she is partaking of that world, which in reality would instantly expel such a creature as a self-flattering poseur. But, why not cash in on this? it is not like somebody won't anyway.
What makes tiaras true collectibles is the many kinds and styles that you can find that are all examples of the arts of design, fabrication and marketing:
- Design: The tiara visually represents, though not intentionally, the feminine Elanne Vitalle. This is done in an abstract rather than representative, manner, This requires in the designers a sense of kinds of line and form that best represents this. This is both a science and an art worthy of being put to use in a profitable and classy way bu a smart young lady.
- Fabrication: A good resource list is not hard to find. In fact there is one in this manual. I am sure that a bit of practice with the tools and supplies will serve you well
- Marketing: It does not take too much skill to figure out that "collectors" are born one per minute. All you need to do is learn to size one up, a skill going back to the Ancients of the Twentieth Century, and a bit of what that insipid Cadet Happy called "the blarney" and you are ready to turn a profit.
- Relative ease of operation: Each of these require skills. Skill is made of talent and practice and is a worthy endeavor in itself. In the world of tiaras, this also implies an appreciation and love of these things. The only reason I didn't get into it is that I had more profitable things to do, but these require mor risk than you might wish to take and I cannot do everything.
And what a panoply is represented by the tiara:
- Rhinestone/Crystal: Made of lengths of carved or cut glass set into metal settings or other things of the like, These stones are clear, colored, "aurora borealis" or the like. They imitate the diamond and other precious stone and metal ones that cost tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- Pearl: This headpiece derives her attraction from the soft sheen of pearl rather than the pyrotechnique of prism and reflected color that the "stone" tiara exhibits. It is more subtle and makes an excellent bride's headpiece.
- Filigree and Wire: Made from long strands of wire or metallic sculptings with set stones. these gems have a beauty of their own.
- Flower: These are constructed of flower shapes made of porcelain or some other material. A related type is the floral them which is made of crystal cut in the shape of petals and leaves and arranged to look like flowers.
- Bead: These are made of glass beads that are colored or clear and cut to various shapes, They have holes drilled in them that let them be set on wire strands. These are often the product of amateur designers and fabricators.
Another characteristic of the tiara is the style. floral, Celtic or heart. These refer to shape and size. These are all "themes" along which collections can be organized. The one thing that makes tiaras a true collectible is the fact that you will never make a bundle of money by creating and selling such collections, since tiaras are made to actually be used rather than put in cases and gawked at. Because of this, the market for the ersatz has not found tiaras. Because of that, the field is wide open and it is not hard to turn the head of the shallow and it is perfectly legal so you will not have Space Patrol breathing down your neck.
