Having read all of the forgoing it is time to get an idea of how this all looks in real life There are sooo many kinds of tiaras and tiaras are known in several ways. They are known by their size. Small: to 1-3/4", medium: 1-2/3" to 2-2/3" and large: 2-1/2" to 3-3/4". Anything bigger is mostly for special purposes and besides looks stupidly excessive and gives the impression that it is about to topple over taking the wearer with it. Of course that is relative to the height of the wearer; on a short girl, 2-2/3" is about as tall as you want to go, on a tall girl 2" may be a bit tiny. They are also known by the material of which they are made, or the style or motif

If you see a tiara with a name, that means it belongs to someone here at RUFFLES & RIBBONS GIRLS' HOME since we enourage the girls to name their tiaras or name them ourselves. Mostly, they will be one of Little Christine Daryleanne's tiaras

Besides. What girl would pass up a chance to look at ALL these tiaras? So many tiaras: so little time! [drool...swoon...thump]

Style and Motif

-Romantic Headlines
DIAMANTINA: A large very basic tiara. She stands over 2-1/2 inches tall and is one of our "mascots"

-Tiara Town, Unique Wedding
LYNESTRA: one of our medium, very basic, tiaras

-Romantic Headlines
PEARLESTRA-a large, 3-1/2", mostly pearl tiara in a classic modern motif--5-hearts, usually a bridal tiara.

-Tiara Town
FLORAL-This Audrey Hepburn tiara has crystal stones cut to look like flower petals and leaves

-Tiara Town
ESTELINDA: Her name means "Pretty Star" for the way she sparkles, like a constellation of stars. This small tiara is an example of shell and heart design.

-Tiara Town
CELTIC: charactereized by a bread and flat desing. This is a pupular wedding tiara though not my favorite. To me, it appears to wander along the band aimlessly, having neither head nor tail.
Other Styles, Kinds, and Materials

-Tiara Town
PEARLANDRA-An all-pearl, medium tiara. Tiara Town sells a gorgeous choker and earring set that matches her.

-Unique Wedding
WIREEWORK tiara; made by beding wire strands into a shap. also uses added stones and other things. These also come with gold colored wire

-eBay<
FILIGREE tiara: Where the wire tiara strands are about 5 milimeters, the filigree is about twice that and not bent in place like the wire tiaras but are formed solid. The Shirley Temple Tiara is one of these.

-Tiaraworld
FLOWER: Different from FLORAL becuase they arenot crystal cot to look like flowers but are made of antother material and to look like real flowers

-Tiara Town

BUTTERFLY: Named for the insect that is included in or suggested by this style. It is not a favorite here for two reasons. First; the thought of a bug sitting in ones hai is rather icky. Second: This style has two "highest points" a bit off-center. This is counter to the idea that the outline of a tiara ought lead to ONE highest point that is at the center
Special Purpose

-Tiara Town
SPECIAL PURPOSE: Many tiaras were made for a special purpose or a onece-only celebration, such as the Quinceranos tiara. It is used on a Latina girl's 15thbirthday, which has specila meaning. There are also Sweet 16 and other types. As a person who values tiaras, I ask, what do you do with these poor things after the event?

-Tiara Town
PAGEANT: What is a Miss Something-or-Other pageant without a tiara. Pageants are a way of life for some girls from the time they are 2 until they are ??. Unfortunately pageant tiaras have mutated to the point of being de trop like ths whopping 4-1/2" tall beast! Hey, Catch me if I tip over wearing this monster!

Tiaras?: um....sort of

-Tiara Town
"COMB TIARA": a very small piece mounted on a horizontally set comb. This is almost too small to be a tiara for a person but does go very well for a medium size doll.

-Unique Weddings
HEADPIIECE: The style is somewhat tiara-esque and is called Tiara. However the materials can be lace backed by stiff material, seqins or tiny "seed" pearls. We will be nice to it and let it join the club, after all, it does try

-eBay
HEADBAND TIARA: This looks like a narrow metal Alice band with a tiara grwoing out of the top. These are real tiaras and very RARE but used to be more common

-eBay
INEXPENSIVE TIARA: made of plastic with a usably durable metallic coeating, this successor to the Shirley Temple Tiara. This is usually made forl little girls but with a little work can be made to fit a grownup. This is suitable for wear while playing or just becuase... They are not as gaudy as you might think and are available in the toy sections of stores or places like Toys-R-Us. Do not pass this one by. In fact, some of the most "tiara"ish desings I have seen are used here and are a refreshing change form the nice but overdone heart, floral and "swept (where the "line" sweeps out from and sometimes back to the center)" desings

-Tiara Town
CHOKER: This is a match for my all-pearl tiara. The reason it is included here is that, according the the Viginia Graham Show some 28 years ago, and in fact, these can be worn as tiaras.

Tiara-NOT!

-eBay
POSEURESS: You often see things like thid on eBay. they really are no more than jumped-up Alice bands I have even had a couple. Sometimes they will have another row of stones or designs or may be a triple band, but they are not tiaras
