NAVIGATION-Getting Around

RUFFLES & RIBBONS GORKS' HOME is a large place that is very interactive. As such, we wanted you to be able to get in and out of a place quickly and easily. However, we want to do this in the context of being like real life. we could have simply done a main page that had links to all the subsections and let it go at that, but if you read VR/GUIz you will find that there was a madness to our method, hence a method to our madness.

To best do this we use a "binary search" model where you click through successively closer pages or in videogame parlance, "screens" until you get exactly what you want. This was done by using what busienss programmmers call "level-brak" design. and consists of bsically three levels Major, Minor and Detail. For example; you go to the library, That is a MAJOR section, then you go to the Book Room that is a MINOR section, you select Being a Rubber Nurse That is a detail which is further divided as shown on the CONTENTS page. In general you are no more than 4 clicks away from 90% of the screens from the D'ARIELLE ESTATE page or QUICK START page.

Also to save uneeded linkage, we set things up so that to get out of a place you just use BACK, rather than recirculating you out. This keeps your continuity and saves you from building a large BACKlog of screens through wihich you must nevigate back to a place where you were. If the place to which you are going has more than 3 or four pages in a row, is off-site or you need to return to an exact spot. we have it open in a new window so that all you do at the end of your time there is just close the window. Sometimes, as in the casue of Alise House, there is a 3 or 4 step process that we need you to go through ONCE then, if you save the QUICK START page, you do not even see that again.

If you "live" in Alise House or Veronica Court. when you or your visitors open the link, you will be on one of the floors. From there you can visit others or take the stairs to the "Stairway" then go to one of the main rooms, outside to the gorouds or, in the case of Veronica Court, to another floor if there are persons living there.

Once you understand the whats and whys, the navigating systme it is fairly easy to use but a bother at first while this is a small place or you are new here but once you have been around and as the place grows, you will be glad it was done this way. I have recieved only one complaint about it. I found that this was the best way to make a fairly quick, easy and robust navigation system in the context of keeping RUFFLES & RIBBONS GIRLS' HOME as a "place". To help matters along, the activities that are alike are grouped in the same place although there is some duplication for example. in Veronica Court and the shopping plaza, Mommy, Mistress, etc changes and chastized the Little Girl, in the others, it is done by Rubber Nurse. Both Alise House and Veronica Court have "GIRL ROOM"s but they are slightly different and both have Nurseries/Nap Rooms but they are slightly different.

In many of the pages you will find Graphic User Interface toolbar. This is just a pictorial set of links that rplace the text "Home | About Us | contact" and we added an orientation, that you see on many webpages so that if you come in at some point other than the index, you can get there and then explore <
