TIARA QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

It would not surprise me to find that, unless you are very familiar with tiaras that you may be a bit overwhelmed by all of this and have some questions. Let me put my answers here to the most frequently asked ones: Remember, these questions pertain to the Tiara Fancy as well and when you are dealing with mad fanatics, the rules are a bit different as each likes to have every stone in its proper place and well-polished AND she probably knows how many stones her tiara has.

1. which tiara is right for me?
Who says that you will have only one? If you are a member of the tiara fancy you will have several and maybe of three or four kinds. Ohterwise, if you are getting a tiara for a special purpose, then that will be true. In either case, the principles are the same. For example if you are 6'9" you can probably get away with a 3-1/2" tiara. If you are 4'9", a 3" tiara would be too tall. If you are wearing her to a prom then you want the crystal tiara. A wedding tiara of almost any material, beaded, pearls, wire or whatever will be perfectly fine. As part of a costume one of the under-$5 "play" tiaras would serve you well and can be had at K-Mart or Walmart. Once those questions are settled, the question is: What do you think looks good?

2. What do you wear and when
I follow the Fairy customs. During the midday I wear a small or smaller, or less bright tiara such as a wire one if the sun is shining. After mid-afternoon I wear a medium tiara. During the morning, or on cloudy days, I wear a medium or large one since it is not that bright and at night I wear a large one. At bedtime I wear a small one as large ones make my sleep uncomfortable. This is also the rule for tiara socials unless it is specifically stated that any type and size may be worn, which is usually thie case since the hostess wishes to have a mix of sizes and I bring a couple of others of different sizes since I may change my mind when I see what is there or will change it as part of the course of activity or the time will be long or the venue move from indoors to outdoors or vice-versa or we will partake in a high level of physical activities, (if you are playing softball or baseball, it is expected that pitcher and batter will try to shine her tiara in the other's eyes :giggle: Be sure to bring a play dress with you!). I generally follow the rule of "Design Sophistication Trumps Size". A smaller tiara with a more complex design will be more attractive than a larger one with a less sophisticated design. It is considered a mark of being self-abosorbed to "make your tiara stand above the rest" (wear one that is overly large for the time and place) and is a sign of immature egocentricity that the Fairies call "taiing oneself to dinner". My Fairy mentress told me "A well-chosen tiara speaks for you. A poorly-chosen tiara speaks about you. In either case the tiara has the last word".

Are all the tiaras of the same size actually the same size?...I mean...um
I understand what you mean. No, they are of different sizes, if you read the page on Kinds of Tiaras, then you know that there were three basic sizes, Small, Medium and Large for normal wear. within each of this, the tiaras are of varying sizes. when one "tries to make her tiara stand above the rest" it means she is wearing one that is in the next highest or taller size range that is appropriate for the time or place.

4. How do you tell if a tiara is loved?
If it is one of those with the absurd transparent combs (I prefer full-circle bands or metal combs that do not break) at the ends of the band I look to see the condition of the teeth. If they are all there then I know thae the poor thing is not worn that much. A much loved tiara is much worn and has many or even all the teeth missing.

What is a "tiara social"?
5. When you have one, tell us and then I will know.
