BUILDING

If you are going to build you need three things Land, Title and Building Tools and Supplies. The "land" is the Webhosting service. The "title" is the domain registration and the building tools and supplies is something else again

xmasters

^^^

I shopped around for webhosting with two key things, price and adult-friendliness and here is where I landed. Xmasters is a "bargain basement" host that is adult-friendly. There are things you don't get like all the perks (guestbook, apps/widgets, forum and the like). I found a guestbook, I found things that I can use like Gallery Wizard; replaced by iwebalbum for Win7 compatibility. Free adult friendly forums are iffy and with some of the junk that goes down on forums, we don't need that cluttering up and polluting the site. A private forum at Daily Diapers has solved those problems along with the use of dedicated in-program email contact lists The really interested will join one of the clubs. However, there are a couple of downsides. 1. they are not on the ball with regards to updating, but they do respond to communications very well and I like dealing with them. Their file uploader is a bit iffy but that is easily gotten around. Every file uploader is a File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, program. If you have FileZilla and FireFox's FireFTP which are free programs. You really need to know only 3 things Your domain name, your FTP user-id and your password. 90% of the time the port will be 21 which most FTP programs default to and most of the time, FTP program default settings get it done. Xmasters gives you the data for that so you can put that into an FTP prgram. In fact, since I got FileZilla and FireFTP (which I prefer), I very seldom log into any of my webhost file managers except to delete files. Now what do you get? Well, like all webhosting. you have several "hosting plans". Thse relate to how much space you get on disk and transfer bandwidth. I use and recommend Plan v2 unless you are expecting a ton of hits or putting up an ad-supported, paysite or business site. For most of our purposes it is just fine: 1GB of file space (To give you an idea of what that is like RUFFLES & RIBBONS GIRLS HOME is about 300 MB) 10 GB transfer bandwidht (None of my sites has every used more than 5) for $4.90/month paid monthly (no contract) and THEY TAKE PAYPAL (a HUGE +++) You do have to learn how to "point" the Domain Named Servers (DNS) but you have to learn that for any webhosting and you have to tell the software what domains you are using and subdomains of which you get an unlimited number a subdomain page looks like this: http://subdomain.domain.(com, net, us, biz, etc)/filename.filetype. On an FTP program. Domains and subdomains look like folders and sub-folders (folders within folders)

Though only 3 tiaras, at the price, it is just right, Most adult-friednly webhosts presume that you are going into the pron business and cost $9 to $15 a month and provide more but still, not good becuase you must still buy a domain name and register it and you still have to do the work of setting the DNS and things and any 4 or 5 tiara host of any kind would cost $6 and up and probably not be adult friendly. So go xmasters plan v2 and you will not go wrong

REGISTER INC

No Rating

You can google up any number of Domain Registration sites. Most peorsons use GoDaddy. I chose Regidter Inc. because, even using PayPal, GoDaddy also wanted a credit card number and I do not use credit cards. Does the crash of '08 do anything for you. I stay out of financial troulbe by avoiding financial danger and credit cards are a trap set by fools fo knaves, akin to the "I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" thing. I use either a debit card, PayPal or some auto-pay system

If the webhost is the land, The Domain Regstry is the deed and title. When you go to a Domain Registry site your first stop is the Domain search engine. A "Domain" is the address of the site. A quick tutorial "http://:" hypertext transfer protocol", "sandralyn" is the Domain name and ".net" is the kind of domain it is. Other kinds are .org, .com, .biz, .tv, .info and so on This information is a human-readable equivalent of what the browser reads as a series of numbers. When you go to the Domain serch engine you put in the domain name and type that you would like to use. I wanted "sandralyn.com" and put it in the search engine. I was told that it was taken but that ".net", ".info", ".org" and others were available. In actuality you do not buy a domain name, you sort of rent it and you must renew it every year or some agreed to time period. The yearly rate can vary between $9 and $20 or more. Different companies will have different kinds "on sale"

After you decide what domain name and type you want you fill out a form that makes it yours. and includes agreement on how you will renew

Once this in in place, you go back to your webhost and "point" the Domain Name Servers, DNS, at your domain name. Then wait for it to "take" anywhere from immediately to 72 hours Between Hosting and domain the whole cost may came to $80/yr. You usually calculate it on a per month basis so that sandralyn.net comes to about $6.50/month

Webhost providers like Bravenet sometimes also do the domain name handling in-house. GoDaddy and other domain registry companies also provide other perks and services that you may want.

FairyWand

Now for the building tools and supplies. You may say to me that I am promoting my own creation. The only thing I created is the bundle, not the programs. The contents of this package came to me as freeware that I either use,, tried out, or read reveiws of. In fact, this kind of built itself from programs that I got for other purposes.I have three criteria. 1. Freeware, 2. Ease of Use because I was a first-timer at these things and after activating them, I still had the setups so I bundled them up in a package, and 3. the thing gives decent results since I am not a web/software sorceress who knows what to do if something happens. I have not used Thingamablog, since I do my own blogging. Audacity, which is used by LibriVox and IamBIK, two audiobook companies and some musicians and KRISTAL, I have heard it recommended by musicians, are recording programs. I have used Audacity to edit MP3's. I tried out PageBreeze as a page maker and would like it but I am a Notepad girl. PageBreeze can be used either as a WYSIWIG (What You See Is What You Get) visual editor or full HTML editor. It can be set up to build a whole site as a project. Most webhosts supply a site builder either visual (WYSISIG) or HTML editor, but you do best with what is yours. In the past WYSISIG editors were not that good and they still put in extraneious code and very few editors can switch between WYSIWIG and HTML editing. You could also do CSS but that is far too complicated for what you will probably want to do, although it does offer advantages if you are willing to learn it. HTML is perfectly fine for most pages. I use the Freemaker converter and the Vedieo4fuze, I have replaced Gallery Wizard, incompatible with Windows 7 with iwebalbum and am ditto using GIFAnimator with the drag & drop unFreez. IrfanView is my default video editor. These and the Javascript Slideshow have been reviewd elswhere. For drawing. there is Paint.NET

Mp3Tag, replacing AudioShell in the new version of FairyWand for Windows 7, is another hit with me. While it does not lets me set up ID3 tags for audio files right in in Properties, It does other things and can be automated. MediaMonkey is a good audio filetype manager, converter, player and vlolum leveller/album analyzer volume leveller and is my music player of choice. MP3Gain attaches APE volum tags to MP3's. FileZila is a respected FTP program that lets you move pages to your site without having to log in but I prefer FireFox's FireFTP, I cna't get 'Zilla to upload .zip files

In addition to FairyWand I also include on the page that gets you there access to an adult friendly guestbook Profile page kits and webhosting/domain, and prefer the FireFox/FireFTP Mizilla add-on combination, with which I have transferred up to 135 MB zip files

To be sure very few of the items that I supply are 5 tiaras. but they are free, easy to use and get the job done. If I have not tried them for lack of technical expertise or need, I know persons who have or have read extensively about them
